Job Description
Job Summary:
We are a large transportation
company based in Morogoro operating a fleet of trucks and tankers looking to
recruit a Health and Safety Manager for our Transport Division. This role is
based in Morogoro, Tanzania. The role requires to identify, co-ordinate and
drive improvements in safety and will require working closely and
collaboratively at all levels within the transport management team.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Co-ordinate the
development of health and safety policies and procedures for company fleet,
workshop, offices and company premises.
- Complete and review
risk assessments for work equipment and transport operations including driver
personal protective gears (PPEs), Fleet Tyre Management System (TMS) and Truck
inventory.
- Ensure a safe
workplace environment without risk to health ensuring adherence and regular
review and communication of all health and safety policies, procedures, rules
and regulations.
- Create signs, posters, banners,
and other presentations media materials to warn of potential and actual safety
hazards and prevent access to hazardous conditions.
- Apply for chemical
permits from GCLA for hazardous cargo to be transported for client.
- Ensure the Company
meets its statutory obligations in all areas of health, safety and welfare at
work and has appropriate protective and preventative measures in place.
- Develop an Emergency Action Plan in case
of truck accident and serve as primary contact for response and troubleshooting
to ensure safety of cargo, truck, driver and public.
- Prepare comprehensive
incident reporting for all accidents occurring in the fleet and carry out a
thorough investigation and identify improvements to be implemented.
- Coordinate and
arrange all permits from Tanroads for abnormal/ wide load cargo.
- Conduct internal Transportation compliance audits and ensure that a planned programme of safety inspections and audits is
carried out to ensure employees are aware of their responsibilities.
- Organize and carry
out Health and Safety training and ensure that any statutory requirements
relating to Health and Safety training are carried out.
- Develops the
transportation safety committee for the company.
- Train drivers, office employees
and management in safety policies and procedures.
- Train defensive
driving/driver safety, and accident prevention techniques with drivers.
- Organizes and
coordinates the daily activities within the Transportation department company guidelines
to ensure safe operations and address potential risks.
- Conduct Pre/Post Trip Inspections for drivers and
trucks.
- Monitor Compliance in all safety related areas
including driver alerts for speeding, night driving and other violations.
- Responsible for ensuring compliance with all
regulations and record keeping concerning driver hours of service, vehicle
maintenance, driver fitness, etc.
- Maintain safety files and records for all drivers and
trucks.
- Create and maintain KPIs for company fleet and
performance.
- Attending to all vehicle breakdowns and security of
cargo and truck with operations team.
- Liaising with operations team on incidental road
expenses arising from driver noncompliance including traffic fines.
- Ensure that all fire and safety equipment comply for
company fleet, workshop and office premises and Conduct fire safety checks from
time to time.
- To provide reports to management on health and safety
progress and meeting of objectives.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
